And now, in its unaltered state:

My time in Freiburg so far ( has it been 3 or 4 days? I don't even know) has been fantastic.
Yesterday we went on our first official IES excursion. You could pick between going to thermal bath or going snowshoeing. Does anyone who knows me need more than one guess to know what I picked? In the end most of the IES group went on the snowshoe hike. Weirdos. I mean, who would rather go on a strenuous hike through the mountains than sit in a thermal bath all day? So I ended up at the thermal bath and I do not for one second regret that decision because it was AMAZING.
They day got off to a bit of a rough start when I, um, overslept causing our group of 4 people plus our housing tutor (RA) to miss the first train. Whoops! One 20 minute train ride later and we have arrived in Bad Krozingen. The thermal bath was basically like a giant indoor water park without the slides and screaming kids. Instead we had thermal baths, Hallebad, and lots of portly German men sporting their speedos and PDAing couples. It. was. awesome.
The water is warmed and there is not chlorine AT ALL, instead you get this wonderful mineral feel on your skin. My favorite pool was the one with the lazy river. Every 10 minutes or so these jets would go off from the sides of the pool and a current would propel you around in a circle. In the middle of the pool was this platform covered with jets where you could lie down on. Equally amazing.
Coming in at a close second was the Musika pool. I dunked my head underneath the water and suddenly I heard MUSIC. We spent about an hour just floating around in that pool on those noodle thingies provided to you by the Hallebad, floating and listening to the elevator music. Oh, and did I mention yet that most of these pools have are outdoors? You get in from the inside, swim through the plastic curtain and suddenly you are OUTSIDE but totally comfortable and warm thanks to the heated water.
Unfortunately no pics from this trip, but it goes without saying that I will be back in Bad Krozingen again with camera in tow.
We didn't get back till about 8, after a full strenuous day relaxing in a thermal bath I was pretty exhausted. But I still decided to go out with the rest of the Händelstraße group and other IES people. I am glad I did because we have a great time, as witnessed by the below picture:
And here again:
What you don't see in this picture is beer overflowing onto the clothes on my back....
I got back a little after 2 am and hit the sack. Now for the explanation of the messy room. Sundays are an exception in Germany. The whole country practically shuts down. EVERYTHING is closed. No groceries, no stores... It's kind of nice to have a day where I am basically just forced to sleep late, hang around, and relax because what else would you do? So this is the first day where I am spending any significant time in my room and I would rather NOT clean. What I would really like to do is go for a walk, but the weather is currently raining and nasty. We have yet to have a day of nice weather in Freiburg. That is all for now, check back soon for more obligatory posts, MOM.
